David Wilson

After training as a Sound Engineer on the Tonmeister (Music & Sound Recording) course in Guildford, England, David returned to Northern Ireland to ply his trade as a Freelance Sound Engineer, Filmmaker and Media Technician.

 

With a taste of the production life (on Game of Thrones, The Northman, and more), he moved to Kyoto in 2022 to improve his Japanese ability before joining Toei Kyoto Studio and working on some of Japan’s most-loved and longest-running series, including modern offerings like Kasoken no Onna, and historical dramas like Ooka EchizenMito Komon, and Mitsuya Seizaemon.

 

Specializing in Post-Production, he has worked on a mix of Japanese historical and modern drama films (Hana NorenHagure GarasuTange SazenCollective Lever) and short films (Mitsudan NagayaClose ApartThe Assassin’s Flower), and regularly facilitates at Kyoto Filmmakers Lab, interpreting and providing Post-Production services for the international crews’ productions.

 

David has also been featured in the broadcast industry criticism & analysis magazine GalaC, as well as speaking about Japanese and International productions on panels at industry events like Eizou Creative Terakoya, with a passion for combining and encouraging the best parts of both the Japanese and International Film industries for both current crew and the next generation of filmmakers.
